Most Frequent Asked Questions
- How do I find your church? Please see our “Directions” page. Our church is located on Jayne Blvd, which intersects with Nesconset Highway (Route 347). When you see the Dunkin Donuts or the Seaport Diner, you have found Jayne Blvd. Our church has a sign in front identifying us as Calvary Baptist Church.
- What does Calvary Baptist Church believe? Please see the abbreviated summary of our Statement of Faith. Our full statement is much more detailed and includes scripture reference, and is available upon request.
- Who is Calvary Baptist Church affiliated with? We are a member of CB America and CB Mission Northeast. (CB stands for Conservative Baptist, the historic name of our association.) Both CB America (our national body) and CB Mission Northeast (our regional fellowship) are associations of independent Baptist churches. We also share a close relationship with the 5 other CB churches in Suffolk Country. While our doctrine and practice defines us as a Baptist church, we fellowship and cooperate with evangelical churches of various denominations as well as non-denomination missions outreaches, both regionally and nationally.
- Where should I go if I come to your church? We have two parking lots. You are welcome to park in the front lot, which is accessible from Jayne Blvd, or you can turn onto Whitman Avenue (just after the church) and you will see the driveway to our rear parking lot. There are doors into the church from either side. Just come into the sanctuary area, and if you need assistance, an usher will be glad to help you.
- Will I feel put on the spot because I am visiting? We try not to do anything that would embarrass you or make you feel awkward. You may find some friendly people sitting near you who will say hello, but we want you to be able to relax and enjoy the service.
- What should I wear to your church? At our Sunday services you will find quite a variety of dress, in large part due to our diversity of backgrounds and tastes. You may see a few tie and dresses, many will wear casual pants and shirts, and you will probably see some jeans and shorts. The only Biblical requirement is modesty. We’re much more concerned that you be here than what you happen to be wearing.
- Are children welcome? Absolutely. We have both infant and toddler nurseries available during our Sunday worship service. In addition, children ages 4-10 are welcome to attend children’s church, which dismisses from the sanctuary just before the Bible message. We also have other children’s programs, including Sunday School, Awana on Friday evening, and Vacation Bible School during the summer. More details can be found on our ministries page.
- What are your church services like? We sing some contemporary worship songs and choruses and well as some traditional hymns. In addition to music, we have prayer led by our pastor or another church leader, an opportunity to give our tithes and offerings, and a Bible message. Once a month we also include the Lord’s Table (communion) during the service.
