Frequently asked Questions We can’t predict every question that everybody is going to think of, but here are answers to some questions that may come to your mind. If you don’t find the answers you are looking for here, please feel free to go to our “Contact Us” section and ask all the questions you want.
1. How do I find your church? We have a map with directions here. Jayne Boulevard intersects with Rt. 347 (Nesconset Highway). When you see the Dunkin Donuts or the Seaport Diner, you have found Jayne Blvd.
2. What does Calvary Baptist Church believe? An abbreviated summary of our Statement of Faith is here. The full statement is much more detailed and includes Scripture references, and is available upon request.
3. Who is Calvary Baptist Church affiliated with? We are a member of CB America and CB Mission Northeast. (CB stands for Conservative Baptist, the historic name of our association.) Both CB America (our national body) and CB mission Northeast (our regional fellowship) are associations of independent Baptist churches. We also have a close relationship with the other five CB churches of Suffolk County. While we are clearly a Baptist church, we fellowship and cooperate with other churches of various denominations as well as non - denominational missions outreaches, both regionally and nationally.
4. Where should I go if I come to your church? We have two parking lots. You are welcome to park in our front parking lot, which is right on Jayne Blvd, or you can turn onto Whitman Avenue (just beyond the church) and you will see the driveway to our rear parking lot. There are doors into the church from either side.
5. Will I feel put on the spot because I am visiting? We don’t try to do anything that would embarrass you or make you feel awkward. You may find some friendly people sitting near you who will say hello, but we want you to be able to relax and enjoy the service.
6. What should I wear to your church? At our Sunday services you will find quite a variety, in large part because of our diversity of backgrounds and tastes. You may see some ties or dresses, many will wear “casual” khakis and shirts, and you will probably see some jeans and/or shorts. The only Biblical requirement is modesty. We’re more concerned that you be here than what you happen to be wearing.
7. Are children welcome? Absolutely. We have both an infant and toddler nurseries available during our Sunday worship service. In addition, children up through age 10 are welcome to attend Children’s Church, which dismisses before the morning Bible message. We also have several children’s programs including Sunday School prior to the Sunday Service, Awana on Friday evenings, and Vacation Bible School during the summer. Our ministries page gives additional details.
8. What are your church services like? We have what is often called blended services, which means we use some traditional hymns as well as contemporary worship songs and choruses. In addition to music, we have prayer led by our pastor or other church leader, giving our tithes and offerings, and a Bible message. Once a month we also include the Lord’s Table (communion) during the service.
